    MADRID – SPAIN

My trip to Madrid, last year,  was “my last trip”  before Corona virus kept  us all locked down in our houses and away from travelling abroad.

My memories of Madrid are vivid, colorful and full of tasteful flavours of the Spanish tapas.

So when it came to painting something about Madrid I thought of those lovely little shops that serve Paella that I would love to visit again.

    and in a closer look

    Stretching Wings

                    ” The wings that stretch”

                                          ( Οι φτερούγες που τεντώνουν)

My friend  Christina  (@iprigipessa , blog here ) who is a very talented blogger, mother and inspirational creature in general, one day impulsively she wrote a magnificent text about a Mother’s thinking while preparing her child for the first day at school (while the child keeps responding to all the mother doubts and fears…in a humorous way).

When I read it, I was really touched and awakens my emotions (since I have a child in that age too…) and decided that I wanted to illustrate it – no matter what.

Here are some of my illustrations (but only 3 of them since it is my recent work and still under the creation process…)

take a look- and tell me what emotion evokes to you…

    WRITING FOR MEDIUM PLATFORM

All who postpone happiness, raise your hands.

If I draw one straight line and put your birth in one end and the day you ‘re gonna leave this earth on the other end,

are you willing to spot where you feel you are right now

Don’t rush to make a logical assumption, to take your age and the statistics about life expectancy in order to make your mark.

For this question you can skip maths.

    The Body and the Beast

Only recently, I convinced myself to join the swimming pool in order to have some exercise.

I will dare to share with you my experience of this first visit, which was indeed — in art-making terms- inspirational!

I admit that I am not an athletic type of person and I never was a member of an athletic team.

Also, I confirm that I do not have a problem with naked bodies or of my body being naked on a beach or in the changing rooms of the shops among other people.

    PORTRAITS – FAMOUS PEOPLE

    AUDREY HEPBURN

Mixed media work with analogical and digital technique, that started with a quick  sketch of Audrey in Watercolour.

Then I thought of making this kind of poster.

I have included  some of the most famous film titles and in simple sketches the most characteristics and stylish poses with the sun-glasses and the other with the cigar! The dress was a bonus !

    NIKOLA  TESLA

I feel that Tesla is  the “Van Gogh of Science“. Personal opinion.

His life was full of disappointments, failures, and he died alone.

He never received the recognition he deserved in his living years.

That gives me a romantic feeling for this  great scientist and  I chose pink for my colour pallet.

                                         CLEOPATRA

    OK something Bold and flamboyant.

    ISADORA DUNCAN

I read the biography of this great dancer and choreographer Isadora Dunkan (1877- 1927) when I was very young.

She was  inspired of  Ancient Greek choreographies and she was called “the bare foot dancer”. She was dancing in abandoned ancient temples at a time when a few people had some kind of admiration or knowledge about Antiquity.

I admired her passion for dancing, her inner fire and of course I was shocked about the tragedies in her life (lost both her children in a tragic accident)

and of course her death was so tragic like her whole life (drowned when her scarf was caught on one of the rear wheels of the sports car where she was riding).

“The Wind? I am the Wind.

The Sea and the Moon? I am the Sea and the Moon.

Tears, pain, love, bird-flights? I am all of them.

Sin, prayer, flight, the light that never was on land or sea?

    I dance what I am.”

                                                                                                    Isadora Duncan

I chose watercolour washes to bring out this etherial feeling for this woman’s dancing.

He was wearing  his astronaut uniform but it happened to be really small…

-” What is going on here, where am I ?”.. the elephant asked himself…”

    Copenhagen – DENMARK

Copenhagen – Hans Christian Andersen’s  home town –

    A city like fairy tale.

The rooftops of the buildings was the most inspiring  of all and if you look my sketch book of  Copenhagen this is how it looks :

I should not forget  to mention the unparalleled Design, that of the Scandinavian countries – an ode to practicality!

And the dreamy  National Gallery – especially the section with the  Danish painters I visited and I was really amazed !!

You can get an idea here from the official site of the National Gallery.

What was really new for me was how Danish people were visiting the National Gallery:

There were  comfortable large sofas in the rooms,  that you could sit and stare the paintings for hours in a really comfortable and  relaxing way like you were in your living room! Also in all theGallery there where many many babies, toddlers and children crawling at the floors and interact with the view of those great paintings!
